Kyveli Mavrokordopoulou
Kyveli Mavrokordopoulou researches, curates, and teaches art history, nuclear aesthetics, and the environmental humanities.
Kyveli Mavrokordopoulou is an art historian and curator, currently a Veni postdoctoral research fellow and lecturer at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). Her research centers on nuclear aesthetics, and she is currently working on a book on antinuclear feminisms in and through art across the 1980s. She was the scientific adviser to the exhibition Atomic Age: Artists Grappling with History (2024–25, Musée d’art moderne, Paris; 2025–26, CCCB Barcelona) and holds a PhD in art history and theory from the École des hautes études en sciences sociales, Paris (2021). Her co-edited volume Toxic Materialities in Art: Encounters, Intentionality, Traces is forthcoming from Brill. Kyveli’s interdisciplinary scholarship, at the intersection of art history and the environmental humanities, engages the visual culture of extraction, toxicity, material histories of art and the environment, and feminist discourses. Her research also unfolds through artistic research in nuclear sites, currently with Agnès Villete around the Gravelines nuclear power plant (funded by the Belgian FNRS, 2027–29). She is a board member of the Environmental Humanities Center Amsterdam. Within JUST ART, Kyveli conducts research under the “Just Production” theme.
