Wadden Sea
Climate change poses many challenges to the North Sea shoreline, including sea-level rise and salinization. Projects such as Coastal Matters aim to ameliorate ecological challenges in the Wadden Sea by finding new applications for little-used materials such as Dutch wool, seaweed, and silt. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009, the Wadden Sea hugs the coastline of three countries and is the largest contiguous intertidal system in the world.
