Salys Sultan
Salys Sultan works at the intersection of sustainability, technology, and interdisciplinary research with a focus on small-island contexts, community engagement, education, and international research collaboration.
Salys Sultan is a Caribbean academic based at the University of Aruba. Her work focuses on connecting data-driven approaches with the complex environmental and societal challenges facing small island states. She has contributed to the development and implementation of interdisciplinary education and research through the Sustainable Island Solutions Through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics project cluster (SISSTEM), where challenges are approached through data science, bio-environmental sciences, technology, and engineering. Her current interests explore how scientific knowledge, community perspectives, technology, and creative practices can intersect to support climate resilience and climate justice. Through regional and international collaborations, she seeks to strengthen research approaches that are locally grounded, participatory, and responsive to the lived realities of islanders while engaging with global sustainability debates.
