Workshop: “Ceramics Workshop of the Future”
A discussion and guided tour of the exhibition Sustainable Ceramics #2 at the Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics in Leeuwarden
Many people are concerned about the ecological crisis and are seeking ways to contribute to a more sustainable future in their daily lives and work. This is also true of the creative sector and applies not only to makers but also to those who support and educate them within vocational and higher education.
This workshop convenes a gathering of peers to ask, “How can we shape a sustainable future for ceramics workshops?” We invite workshop managers and educators from various levels of education—ranging from vocational (MBO) and higher professional (HBO) art academies to post-academic institutions such as the EKWC and the Rijksakademie—to share their experiences and insights.
During the meeting, we will critically examine and rethink our raw materials, processes, and energy consumption, while also discussing pedagogical approaches. In addition to short presentations, there will be ample opportunity for input from participants. The goal is for these experts—all active in the field—to connect with one another, exchange knowledge, and strengthen their professional networks. This event takes place in the context of the exhibition Sustainable Ceramics #2: Investigating a Footprint at the Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics in Leeuwarden, developed in conjunction with Lab AIR. The exhibition includes research-based work from the ceramics workshop of the Rijksakademie, which has committed to phasing out the use of newly mined raw materials by 2029.
